Research and science in clinical nursing: Achievements and challenges

This review article attempts to demystify topic of research in clinical nursing. It initially presents a vision about what science and research are which emphasizes the reasons both basic and clinical areas are fundamental to the field of health. Subsequently, the article analyzes the contributions that science and research have made to providing nursing with its identity. Similarly, it provides details about the steps and key elements for conducting research. Then it posits the importance of making clinical research visible and provides research strategies up until the publication of the research. Through all of this, the article shows that science and research are practical human practices which can be conducted as part of patient care and which result in developing scientific rigor in the practice of the profession.En el presente artículo de revisión se pretende realizar una desmitificación del tema de investigación en enfermería clínica. Inicialmente se da una visión general acerca de lo que son la ciencia y la investigación y se enfatiza en la razón por la cual tanto las áreas básicas como las clínicas son fundamentales en el campo de la salud. Posteriormente se hace un análisis de los aportes que la ciencia y la investigación han hecho a la enfermería al darle identidad como profesión. De igual forma se dan detalles acerca de los pasos y elementos fundamentales para realizar investigación. Luego, se plantea la importancia de visibilizar la investigación clínica y se dan estrategias para realizar esto a través de las publicaciones. En esta forma se muestra la ciencia y la investigación como actividades humanas prácticas, realizables que pueden ser parte de la actividad asistencial, que como resultado le aportan un rigor científico al ejercicio de la profesión.Incluye referencias bibliográfica
