Für die Abschätzung der möglichen Auswirkungen von Nitrilotriessigsäure (NTA) auf die Sorption von Metallen in Kläranlagen und Oberflächengewässern wurden Laboratoriumsversuche mit definierten mineralischen Feststoffphasen (Calcit, Illit, Montmorillonit) und einem organischen Substrat, das aus Zellwänden der Alge Scenedesmus quadricauda bestand, durchgeführt. Der Einsatz von Algenzellwänden ermöglichte erstmals die quantitative Rückgewinnung und Messung der organischen Feststoffphasen in derartigen Versuchssystemen.
