Among many theories trying to explain abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) formation and progression, an infective theory has been proposed. Recently, it has been suggested that transient bacteremia, caused by numerous gram-negative microorganisms in periodontal infection, can play role in abdominal aortic aneurysm development. It is still unclear whether the presence of periodontal bacteria is just secondary phenomenon or they initiate aneurysm formation.
