This descriptive, exploratory study was conducted to test the investigator's guilt model. Three structured interviews were conducted with fourteen couples who had had a child die during the past year. The purpose of the study was to identify the presence and number of guilt statements; diagnose the guilt statements; and assess the effect of sex and preparation time for the child's death, short preparation (SPG) versus long preparation time (LPG). Qualitative and quantitative methods were utilized to evaluate the findings. All parents expressed guilt.
