The purpose of this research was to develop methods of modelling inspection error problems in statistical quality control and to evaluate both the impact of these errors on statistical properties of single sampling plans and costs associated with an inspection process. An example data set was used throughout the research to demonstrate the methods developed. Theory of Signal Detection was used as a tool for evaluation of the performance of inspectors. It was shown that this theory can successfully be applied to estimate the two types of inspection error.
