Hepatic mitochondria isolated from rats dosed with CCl(,4) display depressed respiration, alterations in structure and modification in the mitochondrial nucleic acids. Mitochondria synthesize proteins that are essential for mitochondrial structure and function. Disruption of mitochondrial protein synthesis after CCl(,4) exposure could therefore be responsible for altered mitochondrial function. Therefore the synthesis of protein by hepatic mitochondria isolated from CCl(,4)-exposed rats was studied.
