(Pos)Memoria(s) de la diáspora judía en Centroamérica: ¿De un trauma a otro?

International audienceAlthough the so-called “memory studies” arose as a result of the horror perpetrated by the Nazis during the Second World War, conferring on the Shoah the character of paradigm of genocide, many historians rightly insist on the need to avoid systematic transpositions of concepts to other recent contexts of human rights violations under penalty of losing sight of their historical specificities. However, in some cases, traumatic contexts come to overlap as different interacting layers of memory. Among the plurality of voices that make up the Central American narratives of memory that began to appear after the armed conflicts in the region, we are interested in examining that of Central American authors and artists descended from the Jewish diaspora who managed to escape the Nazi extermination. As children/ grandchildren of survivors, what is their view of the events experienced by their parents/grandparents? And, at the same time, how does this “post-memory” of which they are carriers come to mark their vision of recent Central American history? We will try to trace the particularities of these discourses that oscillate from one trauma to another through the analysis of the autofictional narrative of the Guatemalan writer Eduardo Halfon as well as the photographic work of the Salvadoran artist Muriel Hasbún.Aunque los así denominados “estudios de la memoria” surgieron a raíz del horror perpetrado por los nazis durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, confiriéndole a la Shoah el carácter de paradigma del genocidio, muchos historiadores insisten con razón en la necesidad de evitar las transposiciones sistemáticas de conceptos a otros contextos recientes de violaciones de los derechos humanos so pena de perder de vista sus especificidades históricas. Sin embargo, en algunos casos los contextos traumáticos vienen a superponerse como diferentes capas de la memoria que interactúan. Entre la pluralidad de voces que conforman las narrativas centroamericanas de la memoria que empezaron a aparecer después de los conflictos armados de la región, nos interesa examinar la de los autores y artistas centroamericanos descendientes de la diáspora judía que logró escapar del exterminio nazi. Como hijos/nietos de supervivientes, ¿cuál es su mirada sobre los hechos vividos por sus padres/abuelos? Y, a su vez, ¿cómo esta “posmemoria” de la que son portadores viene a marcar su visión de la historia centroamericana reciente? Intentaremos rastrear las particularidades de estos discursos que oscilan de un trauma a otro a través del análisis de la narrativa autoficcional del escritor guatemalteco Eduardo Halfon así como de la obra fotográfica de la salvadoreña Muriel Hasbún
