English mathematician Charles Babbage drew inspiration from the Jacquard Loom chassis to design the Analytical Engine, the first programmable device in history to resemble, in its architecture, our Personal Computer. Realizing that the high volume of punch cards could be used to insert mathematical formulas into a machine . Babbage appropriated this system to program his first automatic machine, making sure that data and results were separated from the calculation operations controlled by punch cards: "It is know as a fact that the Jacquard loomis capable of weaving any design whichthe imagination of man may conceive"
