THE USE OF SHORT VIDEO TO IMPROVE THE ABILITY OF SECOND YEAR STUDENTS IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT SMP PGRI 01 KROMENGAN MALANG.

In every school, writing is considered difficult by many students. They get difficulties to arrange a paragraph based on their own idea. Therefore, media can support and help the teachers in their teaching. However, in this study the researcher uses short video. Based on the consideration above, the researcher wants to study about the use of short video to improve the ability of second year students in writing descriptive text at SMP PGRI 01 Kromengan Malang. This study used a quasi-experimental design because the groups were already organized in the normal daily teaching. In this case, the experimental group was treated using video and the control group without using video. The population of this study was the students at SMA PGRI 1 Kromengan Malang. The sample of this study was class 8B and 8C which were taken using cluster sampling. The data were obtained through a test and were analyzed using SPSS 17 versions for windows. The result of statistical analysis in SPSS 17 version for windows showed that the p-value (significant point two tails) was < 0.05. Therefore, the hypothesis stated that the use of short video to improve the studentsÂ’ ability in writing descriptive text was accepted. This means that the use of short video in writing descriptive text significantly increases the studentsÂ’ ability. It showed on the students in experimental group that they more confident during the teaching learning process. They did not complain again when the researcher asked to make paragraph. Most of them discussed actively about the video after they watched the video. Also, they did their writing without being asked many times. Moreover, they were able to use appropriate vocabulary and make longer paragraph than before, different from control group which had no improvement
