This tug was built at Cleveland, Ohio in 1921 by the Great Lakes Towing Co. She was owned by that company until 1982 when she was sold to the Admiral Tug and Towing Co. also of Cleveland, Ohio. Her name was changed to "Saipan." The following year she was bought by the Greater Gulf Towing Company of Tampa, Florida. Her name was changed to "Hillsboro." In 1983, she was named the "Maine.
