A printed copy of the Annual Report of the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land (1853), with handwritten notes on the cover. The report lists the members of the society at this time, along with their place of residence. Achievements for 1853 included the expansion of the society's library collection, and a large number of accessions for the Royal Society museum (now the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery). The museum was opened to the public during weekdays this year, and received 683 visitors. Although the Society's Gardens suffered from drought in 1853, they continued to expand the collection and bring more ground under cultivation. From Cotton Family Papers C7/11
