Since its inception in 19751, ion chromatography (IC) has grown to become a powerful separation tool for the analytical chemist. Today, when scientists refer to the term IC, they mean a collection of chromatographic techniques suitable for the separation of inorganic ions and low molecular weight, water-soluble, organic compounds. The range of chromatographic techniques covered by this designation includes: ion-exchange chromatography; reversed-phase ion-interaction chromatography; and ion-exclusion chromatography
