Factors influencing eHealth adoption by Dutch hospitals: An empirical study

This study aims at understanding the factors influencing the organisational adoption of eHealth by Dutch hospitals. This study proposes a model for organisational eHealth adoption based on the Technological-Organisational-Environmental (TOE) framework and elements of the Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) theory. The following factors were identified and included in the model for examining their influence on organisational eHealth adoption: centralisation, size, organisational readiness, top management support, and absorptive capacity. A cross-sectional survey was developed and distributed to hospitals in the Netherlands. Data analysis was performed using the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) approach. The study’s findings indicate that size, organisational readiness and top management support significantly influence the organisational adoption of eHealth by Dutch hospitals.
