Employment Opportunities in the Grain and Feed Industry in Nebraska

The purpose of this study was to determine the employment opportunities in the grain and feed industry in Nebraska. More specifically the problem was defined in terms of the following objectives: To determine the trends of employment opportunities in the grain and feed industry. To determine specific employment opportunities by job category. To determine specific employment characteristics of grain and feed businesses: Ages of employees Education level of employees Amount of experience necessary for employment Level of education necessary for employment This study was limited to the population of the Nebraska Grain and Feed Dealers Association’s “Grain and Feed Directory and Buyers Guide, 1968” which lists all grain elevators, dehydrating plants, federal and state licensed grain warehouses and major feed businesses. For the purposes of this study a business must receive a major portion of its gross income from the sale of grain or feed. A table of random numbers was used to select a 25 per cent random sample of firms from the guide. From the population of 995 grain and feed dealers in Nebraska, a random sample of 250 dealers was selected. The data for this study were primarily collected by a mail survey.
