A Mass Communication Model for Wildlife Conservation

A public information campaign has been suggested as one approach for making those involved in land use decisions more aware of a significant decrease in wildlife habitat in Nebraska.Yet, little is known about how farmers and ranchers view the consequences of this environmental change or about how the farmer views the issue of land use for preservation of wildlife. This exploratory study will look at the concerns of Nebraska’s future farmers and ranchers regarding the use of land for wildlife habitat.The study was designed to provide a communications model or schema and, using that model, design a prototype public information campaign intended to promote increases in wildlife habitat in the State of Nebraska.An audience of junior and senior agriculture students was targeted.
