The Effects of Nebraska Agriculture of the Tariff on Ten Selected Farm Products

The purpose of this study was to show the effects on Nebraska agriculture of the tariff on some of our more important farm products. The ten commodities selected were sugar, wheat, corn, oats, barley, wool, sheep, hogs, cattle, and dairy products. Time did not permit the study of all Nebraska farm products, nor of any manufactured goods. Whenever possible price differentials were given between the principal world markets and the principal markets in the United States. Throughout the study, an effort was made to isolate to as great an extent as possible the influence of the tariff. The author reached several conclusions on each of the commodities selected for study.Among those conclusions was that the tariff was only partially effective in raising the price of cheese in the United States above the world price and that the difference in price was usually during the winter months.
