In this chapter, we present a series of four articles derived from a Introductory Workshop on Biological Rhythms presented at the 72nd Annual Cold Spring Harbor Symposium on Quantitative Biology: Clocks and Rhythms. A diverse range of species, from cyanobacteria to humans, evolved endogenous biological clocks that allow for the anticipation of daily variations in light and temperature. The ability to anticipate environmental variation promotes optimal performance and survival. In the first article, Introduction to Chronobiology, we present a brief historical timeline of how circadian concepts and terminology have emerged since the early observation of daily leaf movement in plants made by an astronomer in the 1700s. Workshop Part IA provide...
The establishment of chrononutrition as an emerging topic within chronobiology has a peculiar histo...
Many physiological processes in organisms from bacteria to man are rhythmic, and some of these are c...
Time is a dimension tightly associated with the biology of living species. There are cycles of varie...
The history of research into circadian rhythms can be traced back to the French astronomer Jean Jacq...
Circadian clocks control the daily life of most light-sensitive organisms- from cyanobacteria to hum...
AbstractThe circadian system of Neurospora crassa includes a molecular feedback loop that is entrain...
Organisms across all kingdoms of life have evolved circadian clocks, genetically-encoded timing syst...
Circadian clocks drive 24 h oscillations in physiology and behavior from algae to humans, using ligh...
Who were the investigators and what was the path that enabled the launch of modern mechanistic resea...
Since reports of daily leaf movements 2000 years ago, a so-called circadian clock (‘circa diem’ mean...
Chronobiology is that branch of science which objectively quantifies and explores mechanisms of biol...
Chronobiology is the study of biological processes with respect to time, specifically concerning the...
