Two species of barracudas viz. Sphyraena obt usa ta and S. je/lo are commonl y caught fr?m the coastal waters of the southwest coast of India. The fishing season extends from October to May WIth two peaks; one in November and the otherinMarch which is closely associated with the breeding habits. Theiriength- weight studies showed differential growth in male and female. Analysis of stomach contents indicated that they are highly predatory fishes feeding mainly on other pelagic species. The barracudas have an extended spawning period with high fecundity rate
