India is one of the major contributors to the world production of marine crustaceans. The average annual estimated landing of marine crustaceans during last 10 years (1995-2004) was 0.42 million tonnes. This important resource consists of penaeid shrimps (46.0%), non-penaeid shrimps (31.8%), crabs (8.6%), lob ters (0.5%) and stomatopods (13%). The first four constitute edible crustaceans. Stomatopods are mainly dried and used as an ingredient in fish meal and poultry feed
