The mature, vesiculiform spermatozoa of decapods are known to undergo certain structural changes due to the lowering of osmotic pressure in the medium which surrounds the spermatozoa (Fasten, 1921). Differences in the electrolytes of the medium would also lead to sperm explosion (Brown, 1966)
