Estimation of marine fish production is made on an all-India basis by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute ever since its inception, and till now brief summary reports alone showing the total landings and their composition are published regularly in the annual reports of the Institute, but details like the regional and seasonal production of the commercially important fishes and their fluctuations etc. have not so far been published. In view of the increasing attention given now for the commercial exploitation of the marine resources to augment our food supply, requests for detailed information and data on specific fisheries, both from private and public organisations are on the increase, so much so it is found necessary...
