In a previous paper (1951) an attempt was made to present a detailed account of the various larval stages of the penaeid prawn Metapenceus dobsoni, together with brief notes on some aspects of its bionomics. Since then a considerable amount of data relating to the species has accumulated in the course of the investigations at Narakkal from October 1951 with special reference to the paddy field prawn fishery. When this fishery was not in operation, i.e., from about the middle of April to about the middle of November, samples of pravm catches from backwaters have been studied in order that data on the species for the whole year would be available
