Aquesta tesi examina els determinants sociodemogràfics i d'estil de vida del consum d’aliments funcionals i el consum de begudes entre els adults i adolescents de la població de les Illes Balears. La població adulta preferí consumir aliments funcionals com llet baixa en greix, el cafè i el té, probiòtics i els cereals per a l’esmorzar. De la mateixa manera, la població adolescent també preferí consumir llet modificada (baixa en greixos o llet enriquida en omega-3), probiòtics i els cereals per a l’esmorzar. El consum de molts aliments funcionals s’associà positivament amb la ingesta de certs components funcionals. L’aigua és la principal font de fluid en la població adolescent i adulta.
