ADAPTASI KELOMPOK ETNIS TIONGHOA PALEMBANG PADA MASA DEPRESI EKONOMI 1930AN

Abstrak: The Chinese ethnic group as one of the social groups in Palembang, got a fairly good position when the Dutch East Indies colonial government came to power in the Palembang area. Even during the economic depression that hit the Dutch East Indies in general and particularly in the Palembang area, the Chinese ethnic group was able to endure and adapt to the changes that occurred. This historical study aims to understand the adaptation of the Palembang Chinese ethnic group during the economic depression period of the 1930s. The writing of this article uses historical methods obtained from the National Archives collection (ANRI), including the Regeerings-Almanac voor Nederlandsche-Indie bundle (1917 and 1920), the Staatsblad van Nederlansch Indie archive collection (1892, 1906 and 1918), Indisch Veslag archive (1931-1941) and the Colonial Verslag archive collection (1905- 1930). The writing of this article also uses secondary sources obtained through the National Library in the form of Palembang local newspapers. Another secondary source in writing this article was obtained through the University of Indonesia library in the form of a book as a supporting work. In this article, the structuration approach described by Christopher Lloyd is used, and the Agency theory described by Anthony Giddens. This paper departs from the opinion that historical facts and value systems (socio-cultural and economic capital) owned by the Palembang Chinese ethnic group greatly influence the behavior of the Chinese ethnic in facing difficult times.
