Sustainability considerations for the industry conference report: Sustainable development indicators in the minerals industry 2009 conference, 6-8 July 2009, gold coast

A conference report on Sustainable Development Indicators in the Minerals Industry 2009 Conference, which was held from 6-8 July 2009 at Gold Coast, Queensland is discussed. The conference was jointly organized by The University of Queensland's Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI), the CRC for Sustainable Resource Processing (CSRP) and The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (The AusIMM). There was also strong representation from industry as well as the academic sector. The Keynote Speaker for the opening plenary session was Tania Constable, Principal Adviser, Resources and Energy Policy Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism who presented on sustainability challenges for the mining industry from a government perspective. The next SDIMI Conference will be held in 2011, at Aachen University in Germany
