Foreign aid has becoming an increasingly common method for strengthening democratic processes and institutions in developing countries (Carothers, 2015). However, scholars disagree on the success of aid and highlights various aspects that are important for a positive outcome of aid. Despite the large selection of aid donors and large donations, Tanzania is one of the countries where democratic backlash is a great issue (Ewald, 2011).
