A new range of tailored, on-demand mobility alternatives are emerging worldwide; amongst these are pooled on-demand services, i.e., shared ride-hailing services such as UberPOOL or ViaVan. Simulation studies have shown the potential benefits of these services in urban areas, yet their ridership is still very limited. This thesis examines the behavioural reasons underlying the adoption of such services. To this end, it includes a series of quantitative studies and suggests a series of policy implications based on the performed analyses.
