Second language use online has become a regular practice for many Internet users reflecting the emergence of new participatory cultures in the virtual world. However, little is yet known about the processes of language use in the fandom and how these create opportunities for identity building and language learning. This thesis reports on fan practices among an international fandom of bronies, adult fans of the animated cartoon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (MLP:FiM).
