Asymptomatic left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (ALVDD) (diastolic abnormalities and normal ejection fraction in the absence of symptoms) is associated with incident heart failure (HF) and decreased survival. Abnormalities of diastolic function might therefore be included in the definition of stage B HF, which denotes individuals at risk for the development of HF. Imaging techniques, especially echocardiography, are necessary for the recognition of preclinical left ventricular (LV) diastolic disturbances, as well as further tracking of pathological changes and responses to treatment.
