AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION IN LEARNING ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES PROGRAM AT MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT OF UNIVERSITY OF MUHAMMADIYAH MALANG

The current English language is the central language of the world, and central language of humanity. English is very important for the future work and everyday life as it is an important tool to communicate, educational of occupational knowledge. Thereby, the student’s motivation in learning English should be given more attention. If motivation higher, learning will be even more effective. This study focuses on students’ motivation in learning English with two purposes: (1) to know how the students make the motivation in learning English in ESP Program at Management Department of University Muhammadiyah Malang,(2) to identify the factors that affect student’s motivation in learning English in ESP Program at Management Department of University Muhammadiyah Malang. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative method, while the data displayed in the forms of descriptive. It is expected to get the data about student’s motivation in learning English of Management students and what factors of Student’s motivation in learning English.The subjects of this study were six students of Management department in academic years, 2017. The researcher used close-ended questionnaire and interview as the instrument for selecting the data. The finding revealed that students’ motivation is high and they have a good motivation in learning English. It also revealed that the internal and external factors are the factors that affect the students’ motivation in learning English. The internal factor such as enjoyment, curiosity, positive attitude toward English language and culture, self-efficacy, and competitiveness. The external factors such as grade, reward and praise, interesting material, education and career, and extensive network with a foreigner
