Background: Green betel leaf (Piper betle L.) is a plant that has been scientifically proven to have antibacterial activity. This plant has the ability as an antiseptic, antioxidant and fungicide. The active compounds contained in Piper betle L. which have antibacterial properties are alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, and essential oils.
