Study of the Short Term Effects of Bay Co. Project D.A.R.E.

The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, or D.A.R.E., is a cooperative effort between police and schools working together to educate youth about the personal and social consequences of the substance abuse. For the purpose of this paper the terms abuse and use are defined as any use of psychoactive drug by persons under the age of eighteen, including alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. The purpose of this study is to determine if a short school-based substance abuse prevention program, the Bay Co. D.A.R.E. Program presented at the elementary school fifth/sixth grade level, can positively affect the participating students' knowledge of the consequences of alcohol tobacco and other drug use.
