Preservation is a fundamental management function for archivists, librarians, curators, history professionals and others with responsibility for acquiring and making available the record of human activity. The study investigates the extent to which there is a relationship between preservation practice and the perceived availability and usefulness of information sources that recommend appropriate preservation actions. The analysis begins with a synthesis of ideas about preservation as a management function and explores how these ideas have evolved over the past decade among leading preservation experts in libraries and archives.
