Cadmium-113 NMR spectroscopy has been utilized as a metallobioprobe for studying metalloproteins such as concanavalin-A, calmodulin and TroponinC since 1976. NMR experiments on cadmium nuclei not only provide information on the number and type of coordinating groups but also help understand conformational changes and nature of protein interactions with inhibitors and substrates. Unlike 13C, 15N and 1H nuclei, 113Cd chemical shift spans about 900 ppm making it a valuable tool to differentiate various coordination numbers.
