America is a land of immigrants. Very few of us can claim indigenous status, yet each new immigrant group seems to have to endure hostility from the other immigrant groups which have preceded them. This hostility may manifest itself in various ways, such as legislation designed to keep more immigrants from entering the country, discrimination in housing or employment, or insulting stereotypes and racial/ethnic slurs.
