Soot temperature and concentration in a spark-ignited direct-injection engine have been studied using time- and space-resolved soot luminosity, radiating from hot soot particles. The study starts with a sensitivity and uncertainty analysis, where the applicability of the two-color technique was evaluated. Quantitative analysis of the sensitivity of the two-color technique was inferred from soot particle size probability-distribution functions in a zero-dimensional space and the variation in the temperature range using a fixed distribution in particle sizes.
