This study assesses the relationship between part-time clinical practice and four measures of primary-care physician performance. Administrative and survey data were gathered on 194 primary care physicians practicing in 25 medical centers of a group-model health maintenance organization. Eighteen physician-level measures were used to form four aggregate performance measures: cancer screening, diabetic management, patient satisfaction, and ambulatory costs. Ordinary least squares regression was employed to examine the associations between physician availability and continuity, practice structure, and performance.
