The musical Show Boat redefined important cultural changes in early twentieth century American society as it provided a means for dealing with human conflict. It allowed men and women the opportunity to examine the social and moral strife of their own time. This study will examine how one work of art, Show Boat, explores the potential for art to deal with human conflict, not just on the stage but in the context of American history and culture.Master'sCollege of Arts and Sciences: Liberal StudiesUniversity of Michiganhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/117817/1/Barnes.pd
