Experiences of conditional and unconditional cash transfers intended for improving health outcomes and health service use: a qualitative evidence synthesis

Objectives This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (qualitative). The objectives are as follows: The main aim of this review is to explore how conditional and unconditional cash transfers aimed at impacting on health behaviours are experienced and perceived by recipients. By health behaviours we mean health service use, health outcomes, or socioeconomic outcomes related to health (e.g. cash grants to address catastrophic healthcare costs). We will focus on the general experience, including acceptability and feasibility of these interventions. The secondary objectives include: understanding how differences in context and recipient backgrounds influence experiences and perceptions of conditional and unconditional cash transfer interventions; describing the unintended consequences of conditional and unconditional cash transfers in different settings from recipients’ perspectives
