Nikolai Ubushaev, the lama Uvshin Khartskh

Born in 1888, Uvshin Khartskh was a monk in the Khamkhulta Temple, which was considered a clan temple of the Baga-Tsatan people. In Soviet times, the monk was arrested and sent to prison. Later he married a Russian woman and told the Kalmyks about the benefits of getting married young. At that time the Kalmyk population was small.
