Thesis (PhD)--Stellenbosch University, 2020.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This dissertation is a compilation of three case studies that integrates drilling, field and geophysical data on dolerite sill complexes across the Karoo basin to constrain the emplacement processes, feeder systems and regional controls during the formation of the Karoo Large Igneous Province (KLIP) at ca. 183 Ma. Chapter 4 describes the relationships between several saucer-shaped sills in the sedimentary strata of the northern Karoo basin and underlying Archaean to Neoproterozoic basement strata of the Kalahari craton.
