Since 1978, the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology (BMFT) is sponsoring research into ecotoxicology within the scope of the project "Methods for the Ecotoxicological Evaluation of Chemicals". The five research projects presented in this report, are dealing with the effect of chemicals in aquatic systems. In the first three papers, the bioaccumulation, the elimination, and the sublethal effect of chemicals on different aquatic organisms (carps, zebra fish, algae) are examined and the qualification of these chosen organisms for "mono species tests" is discussed. The fourth paper describes a test system using the periphyton development in time. In the fifth project, the possible use of artificial ponds as model ecosystems is checked....
