Koncentrace a ziskovost bankovního sektoru v zemích Evropské unie

The thesis deals with concentration and profitability of the banking sector in the countries of the European Union in the years 2008–2017. The aim of the thesis is to verify the existence of a relationship between concentration and profitability of the banking sector. This relationship assumes a positive relationship between variables, and it is tested on a sample of 26 countries. The theoretical part defines the basic concepts of the banking sector, concentration and profitability. The em-pirical part describes the development of concentration using the Herfindahl-Hirschman index, which uses the total assets of the sector as underlying data. Profitability is described as a return on assets and a return on equity. Subse-quently, a correlation analysis is performed on the indicators, which does not prove the established hypothesis about the relationship between the variables.
