Chov anglického plnokrvníka na Slovensku

The aim of this thesis is to highlight the breeding of Thoroughbred in Slovakia and to prove that these horses are also capable of competing in horse races, as nowdays most of the owners of the race horses prefer purchases from abroad – mainly from Germany, France and Ireland. There was also a need to emphasize the issues related to the funding of horse breeding, lack of breeding stallions and lack of breeding grounds. The thesis also focuses on a specific comparison of the best Slovak bred horses with the horses imported from abroad. I have observed the development of the future racehorse from birth and weaning followed by integration to the herd, training and preparation for the first race. Horse breeding in Slovakia can not be considered groundbreaking, but we have everal decent racehorses in Slovakia and abroad as well. The interest of Slovak owners and breeders in the horses bred in Slovakia is unfortunately decreasing
