The role of soil properties for the vegetation development during early spontaneous succession and forest reclamation was studied in a limestone quarry Mokrá (south of Moravia). Spontaneously regenerated areas were studied mainly with the aim to detect the soil environment features supporting the swards formation of expansive reed grass (Calamagrostis epigejos), which is able to arrest a succession process. Forestry reclaimed areas were study with the aim to compare soil properties of prosperous and decline sites.
