This Bachelor’s Thesis deals with the creation and development of the Indian city of Chandigarh, built on the green field. Its creation was necessitated by major political problems related to the establishment of India as a sovereign nation. The first part explains architectural and urban principles of the world-famous architect Le Corbusier, who was the author of the Master Plan of Chandigarh. Subsequently, the creation and development of Chandigarh is laid out, up to the present. The practical section compares Chandigarh with Amritsar, a traditional Indian city, followed by a study of the present state of selected city sectors, together with an analysis of the land use.
