Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a highly efficacious HIV prevention strategy. The caveat, however, is that PrEP requires high adherence to antiretroviral medications during periods when a person is at risk of acquiring HIV. Identifying who is at risk of HIV and ensuring adequate coverage during these risk periods is a key challenge of PrEP implementation. The overarching objective of this thesis was to examine adherence to PrEP among gay and bisexual men (GBM) in New South Wales, Australia. This body of research comprises four projects.
