A Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Sodium Phenytoin Dressing on Wound Healing among Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcer at Christianfellowship Hospital, Oddanchatram

A study to evaluate the effectiveness of sodium phenytoin dressing on wound healing among patients with diabetic foot ulcer at C.F.H. in Oddanchatram. The study was conducted in Christian Fellowship Hospital at Oddanchatram. Quasi experimental time series design was used for the study; permission was obtained from the Medical superintendent and HOD of Surgery. Data collection was done over a period of four weeks. The investigator had selected sixty subjects in which 30 in experimental group and 30 in control group by convenience sampling technique. Oral concern was obtained from the subjects. Patient with diabetic ulcer were assessed for the level of wound healing by means of modified Bates Jensen’s wound assessment tool. On day 1 pretest was done among the patients with diabetic ulcer in both experimental and control group. After pretest sodium phenytoin dressing was done for the patients in experimental group and saline dressing was done in control group for 15 days. Then posttest was done on day 5, 10 and 15 for both groups and the overall average of the post test scores was taken for data analysis. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the findings of the study. The Finding shows that the mean score of wound healing in patient receiving sodium phenytoin dressing was 33.23 (±3.88) where as in control group it was 24.34(±5.81). Hence it is evident that sodium phenytoin dressing was significant (P<0.05) on improving the level of wound healing in patient with diabetic foot ulcer. There was a significant association (P
