EFEKTIVITAS ANTIMIKROBA SEDIAAN GARGARISMA YANG MENGANDUNG KOMBINASI DAUN SIRIH MERAH ( Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav. ) DAN DAUN MINT (Mentha piperita) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN Streptococcus mutans PENYEBAB KARIES GIGI

Although teeth are hard body tissues, they might suffer damage caused by bacteria in the oral cavity, such as Streptococcus mutants that cause dental caries. This research formulates gargarism preparations containing a combination of red betel and mint leaves effectiveness and examines its antimicrobial potential against Streptococcus mutans. Red Betel and Mint Leaves obtained from the Makassar city are infused and formulated into gargarism with a ratio of 0: 10%, 10%: 0, 5%: 5%, 7.5%: 2.5%, and 2.5%: 7.5%. Gargarism preparations were tested for physical quality before and after the accelerated stability test, including Organoleptic Test, pH, Viscosity, and clarity. These components were tested for antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus mutans, where all formulas met the physical quality requirements. The results of antibacterial effectiveness testing against Streptococcus mutans showed the average inhibition zone as follows; Negative control 8.40 mm, formula 10%: 0 at 20.80 mm, 0: 10% at 18.80 mm, 5%: 5% at 25.00 mm, 7.5%: 2.5% by 23.4 mm, 2.5%: 7.5% by 20.8 mm and positive control by 27.4 mm. These results show that the formula with a ratio of red betel leaf: mint leaves at 7.5%: 2.5% is most optimal compared to other concentrations (p <0.05), though smaller than the positive control (p <0.05).Keywords: Gargarism; infusion combination of red betel leaf and mint leaves; Streptococcus mutansGigi merupakan jaringan tubuh yang keras, namun dapat terjadi kerusakan yang disebabkan oleh bakteri di dalam rongga mulut seperti Streptococcus mutans yang menyebabkan terbentuknya karies gigi.. Tujuan Penelitian ini untuk memformulasi sediaan gargarisma yang mengandung kombinasi daun Sirih merah dan daun Mint serta menguji efektivitas antimikrobanya terhadap Streptococcus mutans. Daun Sirih Merah dan Daun Mint yang diperoleh dari kota Makassar dibuat Infus dan diformulasi menjadi gargarisma dengan perbandingan konsentrasi infus Daun Sirih Merah berbanding Infus Daun Mint sebesar 0:10%, 10%:0, 5%:5%, 7,5%:2,5%, dan 2,5%:7,5% Sediaan gargarisma diuji mutu fisiknya sebelum dan sesudah uji stabilitas dipercepat meliputi Uji Organoleptis, pH, Viskositas dan kejernihan serta diuji aktivitas antimikroba terhadap Streptococcus mutans. Hasil pengujian mutu fisik menunjukkan semua formula memenuhi persyaratan mutu fisik dan Hasil Pengujian efektivitas antibakteri terhadap Streptococcus mutans menunjukan rata – rata zona hambatan sebagai berikut Kontrol negatif 8,40 mm, formula 10%:0 sebesar 20,80 mm, formula 0:10% sebesar 18,80mm, formula 5%:5% sebesar 25,00 mm, formula 7,5%:2,5% sebesar 23,4 mm, formula 2,5%:7,5% sebesar 20,8 mm dan kontrol positif sebesar 27,4 mm.
