Maria Rodriguez-Winter has been one the voices advocating for the Hispanic community of Toledo and raising cultural awaeness. Originally, from Crystal City, Texas, she and her family followed the crops north, working in the fields. She remembers this journey to Ohio, when she was just a child. Her family settled in near Wauseon, Ohio. She studied nursing and later political science. She founded MECHA, an organization to encourage Hispanic students at the University of Toledo.
